Georgina R. Broomfield

Georgina was born in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador in 1965. In 1990, she began working in antler, whalebone and a variety of relatively soft soapstones and alabasters, with George Collins, her partner at the time. At first, she collaborated by assisting in the sanding and polishing of his unique pieces. By 1994/95 she had begun to create her own work and the movement and playfulness of her first (bear) pieces caught the attention of all who had the opportunity to see them. Her first major piece was an alabaster bear "Something In the Wind", that became the Gallery "mascot" in that it has been printed and reprinted on  more than 20,000 gallery brochures over the past fifteen years. Her larger pieces from 1996 - 2004, inspired by her Inuit ancestry, were indicative of the kind of art and artistry that she became known for. Unfortunately, personal difficulties necessitated a move to Fredrickton, New Brunswick, and hopefully she will, at an opportune time,  pick up where she left off.
