Shannon was born in St. Anthony, Newfoundland in 1950's , but grew up in Goose Bay, Labrador. As an artist who draws, paints and sculpts, he cannot remember when he was not whittling or carving something. He began carving in wood in his earlier years, and moved up to stone and bone in the mid-90's. Shannon enjoyed the challenge of taking a stone, large or small, and looking at it, and then removing stone until the image within had revealed itself and emerged as a unique sculpture. It could be said that Shannon has a very active imagination and that he is always proud of the end result, whether asbstract or detailed in its realism.
